September NPD: Hardware, but Halo reaches upward

New agency's reticence means you have no idea how hardware made in September--except for Xbox 360, which was at the top of the charts with 483,989 units sold. the NPD report that at 383 million, total sales are down hardware 19% year-over-year.

We have a little more information about the software, but also--instead of each individual version of a game (on each platform, for example), the format has changed for this counts as a game on the list, you have been aggregated. So Madden NFL 09 occupies a slot on the top ten this month instead of two.

Halo: Reach would have done well despite this change (is # 1, after all, and on a single platform), but now we see games on top ten that could have been muscled out of the maddens--as Kingdom Hearts: Birth by sleep and Metroid: other Microsoft m., never one to ignore a success story, ravaged by Halo: first month Sell numbers of Reach: 3,3 million units.Notes that the scope is "only the third game this generation to exceed 3 million units sold in first month."The first? Yup, Halo 3.
